Repetition is great for muscle memory but if the student is unaware of the components that result in the success and failure of the particular task then most probably they’ll end up repeating the same errors or go backwards in the development phase and worst yet create a lack of confidence.
The most effective manner I find to lock in sound technique and a path towards correct muscle memory is at the end of the lesson the student explains and demonstrates what they’ve learnt. Practical and theory go hand in hand! It’s also a good tool to write it down immediately to lock that knowledge in as best as possible. I advise google drive or better yet evernote to store and manage content.
I also find this process teaches me a lot about the student and the communication skills best needed to effect positive change.
